John Schmelzeis – CEO
John sets the strategy and direction of Colorado River Analytics, leading the Management Consulting Practice, partner alliances, delivery capacity, and go-to-market. Under his leadership, a leading global advisory firm white-labels CRA's services, and CRA's technical professional services delivery capabilities continue to expand rapidly across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC.
He champions CRA's "customer zero" approach: identifying emerging technologies early, rapidly skilling the team, and putting them to work inside CRA first. The result is proven patterns CRA can then offer to clients.
Before founding CRA, he spent 18 years at Microsoft in leadership roles across Product Management and the Global Partner Organization. There he built and scaled strategic alliances, accelerated joint go-to-market programs, and delivered measurable business outcomes for customers worldwide. Prior to joining Microsoft, he led business development for a software division at Apple. Today he brings that experience to every CRA client and partner.
Diego Diaz – CTO & Services Director
Diego leads technical strategy, solution architecture, and services delivery at Colorado River Analytics, guiding clients through cloud, data, and AI programs across Azure, AWS, GCP, and Oracle Cloud.
After serving as a Cloud Senior Consultant at EY, Diego co-founded a Microsoft partner organization that earned Microsoft Azure Partner of the Year in just four years, with delivery across multiple countries in the Americas.
Over more than 18 years, he has moved from infrastructure engineering to multi-cloud architecture. Along the way he has led platform modernization, migration, and operations programs for multinational corporations, enterprises, and high-growth mid-market organizations.
Diego is also a popular speaker at technology conferences, including Microsoft TechFusion, where he presents on emerging topics such as AI and AI security.

Colorado River Analytics was founded in Phoenix, Arizona by seasoned technologists—a region defined by its harsh desert conditions. Yet, through vision, determination, analytics, and engineering—most notably through projects like the Glen Canyon Dam—the Colorado River has transformed the desert into a place where cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Las Vegas don't just survive, they thrive.
